Blessings All,

It's hard to believe February is already winding down and spring beckons just around the corner! Although the year is still young, it has brought many changes with it and I look forward to the challenges these bring!

My schedule for the first half of the year is in place, and while we are still getting the second half ironed out, there are some potentially exciting locales that are a bit more far afield than I've been able to go these past few years. Between the new baby, some issues with my husband's health, and our imminent move out of NYC to Upstate New York, I've had to be somewhat conservative in my travels. I am looking forward to resuming a more varied presentation schedule once again, and especially to the next SOA Pilgrimage to Wales and Britain in 2009.

Until then, I hope to be able to connect with some of you at the following events. As always, blessings of transformation to you all!

Blessings all,

I have enjoyed my time here on LiveJournal, but have decided to change blogging venues. I will be setting up an RSS feed so I won't lose track of the lovely people I have met here on LJ, and I will continue to use this blog for announcements and the like, so please don't feel like you need to leave. With the new year, I have resolved to do more content blogging, and have set up shop here: http://www.ynysafallon.com/blog/ ; as you can see, it is linked through my website.

I have a lot of wonderful projects underway for 2008, and am very excited to share them with you. I will be using my new blog to discuss things relavent to those walking Avalonian and Welsh Celtic spiritual paths, as well as things having to do with Goddess Spirituality and women's issues in general. Too, I will be honoring women who are making a difference in Women's Spirituality in the here and now, and profiling woman artisans and creators throughout the year. I hope you will join me in these explorations, and I am looking forward to hearing your suggestions for inspirational women to feature in my Women of Spirit series.

Please stop by or email me with your thoughts, recommendations and suggestions.

I wish everyone an abundant 2008, filled with love, joy, and transformation!

Bendithion Afallon,
Jhenah

I am pleased to share that my article "She Lives In My Heart: Sharing the Goddess Path With My Daughter" appears in the current issue of The Beltane Papers. Pick up an issue and let me know what you think!

This issue also features writings by and about Shekhinah Mountainwater, whose recent passing into the arms of the Mother has touched so many.

Please support this wonderful publication -- ask your local bookstores and metaphysical shops to carry it if they do not already, or purchase issues from their website. It is more than a magazine -- it's volunteer run by consensus, with deep connections to the beginnings of the Goddess Spirituality movement in the US.

Many thanks and blessings!

Blessings All!

The Sisterhood of Avalon sponsors Training Intensives at various times and places throughout the year. Presented around the United States and Great Britain since 1998, these Intensives allow women to learn Avalonian ritual, techniques, tools and philosophy from an experiential perspective. Come to connect with the Goddesses of Avalon, and learn how to heal and empower yourself as you align with the Cycles of the Universe

The Level One Intensive is highly recommended for solitaries and women wishing to establish and facilitate SOA Learning Circles and Hearths.

We are pleased to announce that the Sisterhood of Avalon is presenting a Level One Intensive October 25 - 28, 2007 in Rensselaerville, NY, 25 miles southwest of Albany. The Intensive will be held at a retreat center on 120 acres of forest, streams, trails and natural beauty. There is an eight-acre lake and ponds abundant with growing things and wildlife, paths through old orchards and even older forests that hold promises and secrets of Self and Life.

The Intensive will run from Thursday through Sunday, and the price includes workshops, lodging, and all organic vegetarian meals. The SOA Level One Intensive is open to all women, members and non-members alike.

Detailed information packets and registration materials are available upon request. Space is limited. If you are interested in attending or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at intensives@ sisterhoodofavalon.org

SOA Intensives are always wonderful opportunities to become immersed in the work of Avalon and to build sacred community with sisters; we hope you will have an opportunity to attend.

Greetings All!

I am pleased to announce the general release of my latest project, in conjunction with the Sisterhood of Avalon and many talented sisters.

Trancing the Inner Landscape: Avalonian Landscape Postures DVD allows you to embark upon a Spiritual Pilgrimage to Sacred Sites in the Glastonbury landscape through a series of shamanic trance postures that emulate the unusual and alchemical features in the Avalonian countryside. Inspired by the work of Felicitas Goodman and her students, I developed this posture system in 2003. Along with background information and detailed instructions, the DVD features beautiful film footage and still photography of the landscape feature which inspired each posture. As a bonus, the DVD contains an audio track of trance drumming to accompany you on your journeys. It is truly a feast for the eyes, the body, and the spirit.

Best yet, the sale of this DVD helps support the Sacred Land Fund of the Sisterhood of Avalon, which is dedicated to the establishment of a Goddess-Centered Avalonian Community.

The first quarter of 2006 has been a both a miraculous and difficult time for me; so many changes! So many transitions! My mother passed in March after battling stage four lung cancer for 8 months, and just weeks before her passing, we discovered that we are expecting our second child. The Universe gives and the Universe takes away, I suppose, and so the balance is kept.

I've taken about a month away from cyberspace to process all that has happened, and am slowly getting back into the swing of things. I will be participating in several public events this spring and summer, and wanted share them here.  If you are local or planning to attend, please drop me a line and be sure to stop by and say hello!

    Pilgrimage to the Motherland
A Journey through the Sacred Landscapes of the Avalonian Tradition
Presented by the Sisterhood of Avalon
    Facilitated by Jhenah Telyndru
    June 25 to July 6, 2006

The first Sisterhood of Avalon pilgrimage to Wales will be taking place from Sunday June 25 to Thursday July 6, 2006. It is open to all members of the Sisterhood of Avalon; and to other women, aged 18 and over, who are interested in the Avalonian path.

On this eleven-day pilgrimage, we will explore both inner and outer landscapes as we balance conscious sightseeing with ritual, Imram and Avalonian workshops. We will spend eight days in Wales, visiting sites associated in literature and ancient folk memory with Ceridwen, Blodeuwedd, Rhiannon, Arianrhod and Branwen, and immersing ourselves in the energies of the sacred landscapes of the Avalonian Tradition; and we will then travel to Glastonbury, Avalon of old, where we will spend the final three days of the pilgrimage visiting this “holiest erthe in Englande.”

We will spend time in experiential workshops, sharing in ritual amidst the sacred landscapes, drumming and chanting, and immersing ourselves in the spiritual energies of sites associated with the Goddesses of Avalon and the priestesses of old who are our foremothers.

    Pilgrimage Costs:

$1900 if paid in full by April 1, 2006
$2000 if paid in full by May 1, 2006
$2100 if paid in full anytime after May 1, 2006

Price covers all workshops and visits to sites; accommodation and full board (with the exception of a few meals while on the road); and ground transportation, including pick-up and drop-off at London’s Heathrow Airport on the first and last days of the trip.

Not included: airfare or other transportation from your starting point to London Heathrow; and trip and medical insurance.

A non-refundable deposit of $200 by January 31, 2006 is necessary to hold your place.

For more information, please email me at (Morgen at sisterhoodofavalon.org) for the detailed registration packet which will be available by this weekend.

We look forward to sharing this transformational experience with you!

The PanGaia website now features some articles from their recent issue on Celtic Spirituality. Voices of Modern Druidry, the interview with Isaac Bonewits, R.J. Stewart and myself, is now available to read online, so do check it out and let me know your thoughts, especially as concerns the concept of a Woman-Centered Celtic Path such as the Avalonian Tradition.

The Autumn 2005 issue of PanGaia (#42) is just hitting the stands and it's a special issue devoted to Celtic Spirituality. Along with R.J. Stewart and Issac Bonewits, I was interviewed for the cover story entitled Voices of  Modern Druidry, conducted by PanGaia managing editor Elizabeth Barrett. I am pleased with the way the interview worked out as it gave me an opportunity to talk about the Avalonian Tradition within the context of today's Druidic movement. Pick up a copy, and let me know what you think!

Just as we did with the Asian Tsunami, the Sisterhood of Avalon has made a donation to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Individual sisters are making a difference both in the disaster area and in their local communities, hoping to alleviate the suffering and to help save lives. I am proud of my Sisters and others in the Pagan community who are mobilizing resources to help others in this dire time of great need.

My intention is not to blow our own horns about this, but it makes me angry when sweeping generalizations are made about Pagans not being involved in charitable activities -- this has simply not been my experience. It has always been an important part of the Sisterhood to become involved in some cause or charity -- Sisters have worked at soup kitchens, built homes with Habitat for Humanity, raised money for Cancer research, donated time and resources to Women's Shelters, adopted roads for clean-up, collected food for food pantries -- the list goes on. I know other groups and organizations do the same -- so why are charitable Pagans invisible? I think it's because -- aside from being a relatively small political demographic -- by nature, we do not aggregate into large umbrella groups the way other religions do in America. I've seen several attempts at creating Pagan-specific charitable organizations, but sadly they all seem to peter out eventually. There have been some attempts at bringing Pagan charitable works into the public eye, but the community has yet to find a banner to rally around.

This said, I've seen several posts around the net in the past few days about a new Pagan Charity  called Avalon Cares that was set up for Hurricane Katrina victims. I have mixed feelings about donating to an intermediary group instead of directly to an established organization like the Red Cross, but I do feel that we need to start somewhere as a community, and the person who is spearheading this project -- Kerr Cuhulain -- is someone with whom Ive been on Pagan Leadership e-lists, and Ive never felt that he was anything but on the level. Follow your heart, but whether you choose to give to Avalon Cares or directly to the Red Cross, please do give. Even a small amount of money can make a big difference in this devastation.

    03 September 2005 @ 02:08 am
Western Tradition teaches that "Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes." The Spirit is genderless, true ... yet most of us manifest physically more towards one or the other poles of male or female, granted as individuals we each hold different points in the spectrum. We have chosen to express a particular aspect of Spirit in this body, thus giving us our gender. As above, so below. As within, so without. Although it's not my area of experience, I would expect that transgendered persons are towards the center of this spectrum, and have their own Mysteries to explore.

Some believe that the Divine is Genderless as well, and that the first primary energetic differentiation is into the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine, as seen, for example with Kether, Chokmah and Binah. Why does the Divine manifest as Gods and Goddesses if gender is irrelevant, if there is no difference between Male and Female? This pattern repeats itself endlessly throughout all stages of manifestation -- from the highest vibration to the lowest. Indeed, with only very few exceptions, almost all living things are gendered; I cannot believe gender is without purpose when it is so prevalent in nature.

Even the yin/yang symbol acknowledges that while there is indeed an aspect of one gender inherent in the other, there is still a separation of their energies ... else, instead of the cyclic pattern of while/black moving into each other, we would have just a static gray circle.

I think that there is great value in walking a Gendered path, and exploring those things that make us inherently Male or inherently Female. There is sacredness here, and it certainly has precedent in the ancient cultures from which many of us draw our inspiration. In fact, most cultures featured same-gender priest/esshoods dedicated to one specific Deity; the Sumerian Naditu and the Gallicenae of Sena spring immediately to mind. The concept of gender-balanced paths is a new one -- not that it makes this any less relevant -- but it certainly doesn't make it the only acceptable manifestation of Pagan Spirituality in modern times.

Gender Mysteries play an important role in Spirituality, especially since the power of the Feminine has been so very devalued and men who do not conform to the accepted stereotype of "maleness" are rejected and ridiculed. Reclaiming the true nature of what it means to be an empowered man or woman has little to do with cultural gender roles; and since these wisdoms have become so deeply buried in our psyches, it can take much work and inner processing to reveal the authentic Woman or Man within us.

    21 August 2005 @ 01:39 am
The concept of Women's Mysteries is a hot button topic for many in the Neo-Pagan community. The predominant perspective seems to relegate the Feminine Spirituality Movement to some reactive manifestation of Feminist Politics that is inherently anti-male and whose sole purpose is to rage against the Patriarchy. In my experience, however, Goddess-centered spirituality focuses on reclaiming the Sacred Feminine, not on devaluing the Masculine. Except for the most extremist perspectives, Feminism itself fosters a desire for "power with" rather than "power over." Feminism's goals are not about putting women in charge, but about equality of worth and unlimited choices for all, regardless of gender.

Living in a male-centered world, and growing up in Father God-centered religions, many women feel the need to explore the Feminine Aspect of Spirit. It is a big step to begin to see Woman as a reflection of the Divine, rather than as the carrier of sin and vessel of temptation painted in broad strokes in Judeo-Christian thought. Those who seek God the Mother do so in the myths and religions of the past, in the spiritual expressions of indigenous peoples and of the East, as well as from the spark of inspiration within -- creating new forms and new paths for the women of the future.

I will be exploring these themes and discussing the importance of Women's Mysteries and the power of Priestessing as an ongoing feature of my blog. I will also be sharing some specifics about my own path and the place for Women's Mysteries in Celtic Spiritual Traditions. As you know, I myself am involved in a Women's Spirituality Tradition through the Sisterhood of Avalon, and would like to share my insights on the movement and the impact I've seen it have in the lives of women. I hope all of you will participate in these discussions, and invite others who might be interested along for the ride.

    Bendithion,
    Jhenah
